Breath of Life Breath of Love
Breathwork and Tantra Retreat

Dan Brulé and Shakti Malan
1 - 6 April 2011
Blue Butterfly, Tulbach
, South Africa

The Retreat

There are two energies running through your body that can profoundly transform your access to life and love:
  • Breath, prana or Chi; and
  • Kundalini, or sexual energy

Join us in April for an extraordinary opportunity to work with two internationally known teachers, Shakti Malan, dakini or teacher of the art of sacred sexuality, and Dan Brulé, teacher of breathwork

We have put aside five days for you to immerse yourself in the beauty and perfection of your own being, facilitated by the opening of your breath and your sexual energy.

There will be two main components to our work:

1. Releasing and reintegrating energy from the unconscious

From the moment of our conception, human beings can encounter experiences that feel traumatic or overwhelming. As little ones, we simply do not have the capacity to deal with the intensity of some life experiences, and so we suppress what we cannot cope with. Later in life, suppressing, denying and controlling becomes a way of living. We live our lives protected by body armoring that keeps us from feeling the full impact of the moment.

But there comes a time when we are ready live life fully. At this point, it is time to feel what has been suppressed before, and to let what is hidden away in the unconscious be integrated back into the fullness of our energy bodies.

During this retreat, there will be collective and individual opportunities for you to release trauma and integrate experiences that have been suppressed and that inhibit the flow of your life force. Dan and Shakti will guide you through the use of loving, conscious breathwork and facilitated nervous system re-patterning to help you reclaim the life force that is rightfully yours.

2. Immersion in pure presence

When we stop denying and suppressing, there is more space in us for pure awareness and simple presence.

The question that your sexual energy presents is: How much ecstasy or bliss can you tolerate? The question that the breath asks you is: how deeply are you willing to open and feel in this moment?

Are you ready for the ride of your life?
Are you ready to be alive, total and expanded like never before?

Then come, beloveds… Come take this opportunity to open more to the flow of your own pure life force.

Say yes to life
Say yes to love
The breath will help to take you there

About Breathwork

Breathwork is the use of breath awareness and conscious breathing exercises, techniques and meditations meant to clear your head, settle your stomach, calm your nerves, and open your heart. We use the breath as a bridge, a force and a tool for health, growth and change in spirit, mind and body. Our style of breathwork is called Spiritual Breathing. It engages every level of your being in the simple natural moment to moment process of breathing. As you become more conscious of your breathing, you become more conscious in general. As you become more aware of your breath, you become more aware, period. Awareness is the key to liberation!

About Tantra

Tantra is an ancient mystery tradition that regards all aspects of our experience, including our sexuality, as a gateway to our awakening. Only when a meditator or a monk was deemed ready by his master would he be introduced to the secret practices of Tantra. When the celibate monk got introduced to the Dakini, a woman who embodies the sacred power of female sexuality, this confrontation with taboo would instantly shatter his spiritual ego and give him an opportunity right there to wake up. She would then initiate him into the sacred sexual mystery practices.

The world is ready to wake up, and is waiting for seekers like you who are willing to face your deepest desires and fears. As a leader of the Advait Tantra school, Shakti has adapted the mystery practices to be accessible for the modern world. It is possible to encounter the touch of the Dakini without any nakedness or even physical touch being required. As we learn to open to the flow of breath, sensuality and kundalini in our own bodies, this energy starts to emanate from us, to bless, uplift, and awaken whoever we meet.

Breath and Tantra coming together

Imagine taking this beautiful awareness of the breath into your relationships. Imagine consciously breathing with your beloved. Imagine making your sexual intimate life a space for awakening to happen, through the breath. This is what we will be extending the breath work into this time.

Expect naked hearts rather than naked bodies.

Expect people breathing together in loving support, rather than any overt sexual activity.

Expect a deep embracing of yourself, and a dropping of the false protections that keep us from being able to meet another in truth.

Expect to discover more about your essential impulse rather than pressure to participate in experiences you are not comfortable with.

I have found that many seekers of truth have done deep work in all areas of their lives except their sexuality. And yet our sexuality is such a potent gateway to consciousness!

What if we could use this tremendous power of the breath to break through into deep, unconditional loving?

About Dan Brulé

Dan Brulé is a modern day teacher and healer. He is a world-renown pioneer in the field of Breathwork, and leader of the worldwide Spiritual Breathing movement. Dan is one of the originators of Breath Therapy, and was among the first group of Internationally Certified Rebirthers. He is a master of Prana Yoga (the Hindu Science of Breath), and of Chi Kung/Qigong (Chinese Medical Breathing Exercises). Few people in the world have more hands-on experience in Breathwork. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Education from The University of Massachusetts, and a Masters degree in the Healing Arts from Lesley College in Boston.
Dan studied with Qigong Master Hu Bin at the Academy of Chinese Medicine in Beijing. He lived in the Osho community in Oregon, and took part in the original Breath Therapy Program at the Rajneesh International Meditation University. He learned "Prana Yoga" from Swami Rama and did biofeedback training at the Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania. He also studied "Breathing Coordination" with Carl Stough at the Stough Institute in New York.

He has studied and traveled extensively with Leonard Orr, the founder of the "Rebirthing" movement; and he has worked with Stan Grof, the founder of "Holotropic Breathwork." In 1980, Dan traveled to India where he was initiated into "Kriya Yoga" and "Kundalini Yoga" and given the name Guchu Ram Singh by the legendary immortal yogi master Babaji (described in Pramahansa Yogananda's book: "Autobiography of a Yogi.").

More than 80,000 people in over 40 countries apply Dan’s breathing exercises and techniques in their work and in their lives. Among them are Olympic athletes and elite martial artists, leading psychotherapists and medical experts, monks, meditators, hospice workers, yoga teachers, performing artists, personal trainers, substance abuse and pastoral counselors, health practitioners, life coaches, and business executives. About Shakti Malan

Shakti is a Dakini (teacher of the mystery traditions of Tantra) and member of the Advait Tantraschool (www.tantraschool.co.za). She has a busy practice involving sessions, workshops, courses and retreats. Shakti is based in Cape Town and has been teaching internationally in the UK and the US. Her central approach is to enter the totality of experience as a gateway to awakening. For more on her work, see http://shakti.co.za and http://totalitytherapy.com

Shakti is a woman who has always had a deep sense of calling, which first she explored in the development field working with township communities all across South Africa. Through this work she attained a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, a discipline that teaches the practitioner to listen to the reality of groups and individuals from an insider perspective, through immersion in the texture of their lives.

Following from many years of devotion to meditation, tai chi, yoga and shamanic work, Shakti had a sudden and profound redirection of her energy into the field of Tantra. This started at the age of 33 with 18 months of death processing in the wilderness, and then a long period of intense work with the Advaita tradition of non-duality, as well as deep personal emotional processing.

Her style of teaching is influenced by Advaita teachings in general and specifically Advait Tantra, shamanism (most poignantly African shamanic traditions), systemic and process work psychology, her intellectual training as a Social Anthropologist and also her work as a dance and movement teacher.
